C & G have always enjoyed music, like Daddy and I do. We have some "kid" music, and they like it. Especially "Pop Goes the Weasel," "Shake Your Sillies Out," and "Dinah, Won't you Blow?" But, most of the time, we just play "our" music and they listen along. We have pretty eclectic tastes, but I guess we're mostly alt-country/indie/folk people. With a little Beyonce thrown in.
Lately, the kids have started requesting their favorites. Repeatedly. They have a current, hands-down favorite, but there are other "likes" as well.
They have always liked "Smoke Detector" by Rilo Kiley (Ok, Jenny Lewis is a BIG time favorite anytime):
Yes, I know, it's a little racy, but until they get non-literal language, I think we're ok.
Gillian's most requested song is the "Rolling Song." She asked for it at dinner one night a few weeks ago, and we could NOT figure out what she wanted. We didn't really have a "Rolling Song." Our best guess was "Proud Mary." So, we pulled up the Creedence Clearwater version, and it met her specifications, so we're just going with that as the rolling song. We also got her the Tina Turner version:
The absolute favorite right now? The song requested nine times in a row in the car? Well, it's one that makes Daddy happy, that's for sure. It's Josh Ritter's "Rattling Locks" from his (awesome) latest album, "So Runs the World Away." The chorus in the song is "black hole, black hole, black hole..." For some reason it's super catchy to two year olds. I couldn't find a good live version, so this is a photo essay with the album version:
I'm trying to get them interested in some holiday music, but, so far, BLACK HOLE wins every time.
