Fun at The Frick

Last weekend we took advantage of one of the free offerings by the RADical Days program. RADical Days are a series of free events given by all the recipients of tax dollars in our "Regional Asset District," including the zoo, the museums, parks, etc. We have memberships to a lot of the places that had free programs and I hear the bigger events are a MAD HOUSE. So, we looked over the schedule and decided that we would like to go see the mansion and art work at The Frick Art and Historical Center. It's not exactly a high interest target for three year olds so we were hoping it wouldn't be crowded and we were happy to bypass paying for a place we weren't sure the kids would love!

Anyway, it was a cool morning, but nice enough, and we headed out. Gillian was SURE there would be crafts. She way into crafting these days. Luckily for all of us, the first stop inside the gate was a table to make your own kite!




The nice kite making ladies directed us down the path to the "Main Lawn" of the Mansion as a nicer place to fly kites. There was also croquet and wooden hoops to try!




The wooden hoops were quite fun. I can see them keeping kids entertained for a quite a while. Although, Colin wasn't willing to trade his iPad for a wooden hoop.

After the lawn activities we went inside the Mansion. Yeah. Two three year olds in a house full of priceless antiques? So FUN. Actually, they did really well. Colin only tried to sit on one settee. But they were bored. Daddy and I would like to go back for the full house tour....by ourselves. Oh, no pictures allowed inside the house.

We checked out the greenhouse and had a complementary popcorn snack. And then we checked out the Carriage and Antique Car Garage. Colin really enjoyed himself in there. Gillian was mildly interested, but shortly bored. She wanted another craft.


After the carriage house, we walked around to the official Art Gallery portion of the Frick. Once again, luck was with us, and Gillian found another craft table! She made a cute (and quick) necklace and into the gallery we went.....

And five minutes later we came out. They had exactly two rooms of art. And not big rooms. We were confused. Maybe we missed something, but we were thinking they would have more galleries? Who knows. (I wasn't crushed. Art galleries are not my favorite thing ever.)

After the museum, we headed across town and met Uncle Willis and Leah for some street food at Little Italy Days. The kids even conned Uncle Willis into getting them some ice cream!

Beach Vacation: Day 5

More Beach! And this time Colin decided that the ocean wasn't half bad!!

That evening Michael and I left the babies in the very competent Grandma hands, and we went out to dinner by ourselves. We had a nice dinner, walked around downtown, and strolled the boardwalk. It was a little odd to be out and about without our younglings, and Michael said to me, "It's strange that no one is looking at us. Where is all of our attention?" Our kids really do attract a lot of attention!


When we got back to the beach house, the babies were sound asleep, happily. Michael decided we would head down to the beach to try out his new X-Wing Fighter kite that his mom had given him for his birthday. The pictures aren't so great, but you get the idea:
