A Shower for Squishy!

Last weekend, the kiddos and I traveled up to Grammy's house to attend a baby shower for Aunt Cedes and her baby-to-be, who we all call Squishy!

Gillian was quite pleased that it was, for the third time, her week with Parker penguin from school.  I took a picture of G, Parker, Aunt Cedes, and Squishy for Parker's journal for school.

Colin brought Dewey along too.  For company.  And for Grammy to sew poor Dewey's flipper back on.  Being a well loved penguin is a dangerous job.

GraGra came to the shower to celebrate Squishy, but managed to squeeze in some dinosaur floor time too.

The kids were quite excited about all the yummy snacks too!

(Oh my GOODNESS.  Those cupcakes were GOOD.  Those are little lion sprinkles on top too.)

So, while the ladies all played games, Uncle D and Papa Frank were helpful and entertained C&G outside (with lawn mower and wagon rides, of course).

Gillian did come in JUST in time to win the "How Big is Aunt Cedes' Belly" game.  We were all laughing at how SHORT G made her ribbon.  But, she was within 1/3" of being spot on!  Mrs. Sevin tied with her in closeness.  So they got a winners' picture together!

And speaking of WINNING.  Mrs. Kathy was VICIOUS in her pursuit of everyone's clothes pins. When they even whispered the word BABY, she gleefully stole their pins!  Jessie Bean would have been QUITE impressed.

Colin and Gillian were QUITE happy to be present helpers.  ENTHUSIASTIC present helpers.

The Penguin came BACK!

Uncle D and Aunt Cedes gave C&G these penguin suits for their first Christmas.  So, they got one back for Squishy!  Fair, right?

Grammy made Squishy a beautiful quilt!

Discovering Baby Showers

Last weekend I took the kids up north for Rachel's baby shower. They were quite excited even though they had never been to a baby shower. But, they KNOW parties, I suppose. Thankfully Great Aunt Sue always throws a kid friendly party, so there was much fun to be had.

Oh yeah, and Millennium Falcons.

Papa Greg stopped by to get a Colin fix. He didn't stay to party though.

Grammy brought some Elephant and Piggie masks that quickly turned into balloon paddles. What else?

ICE CREAM. Right up Colin's alley.

And Gillian's cookie alley too.

And YAY! It's Amy and Logan! We haven't seen them forever!! What a sweet, happy boy!

It was a very nice shower! It was fun to celebrate Rachel and Baby To Be Named Later! We can't wait to meet him or her! C&G hope the baby comes with more balloons.

Chickens and Baby Showers

On St. Patrick's Day I had a baby shower to attend in the Great North for one of my good friends from high school. It was just a quick up and back trip, so I went by myself. It actually turned into a bit of a vacation for me: sunny, beautiful day, quiet car, my own music, seeing friends, and a cupcake. Not too shabby.

And, I got to see my beautiful friend Amy and her baby-to-be Logan:

All of that enjoyment for me meant that Daddy was solo most of the day. Earlier in the week I had found a news piece somewhere that one of the local parks was having a Maple Sugar Exhibition on Saturday. I thought it might be interesting. I mean, the kids LIKE syrup. It was also at the same park that is the county's "exhibit farm." That means they have lots of cute animals to look at and barns to explore. So, Daddy thought it sounded like fun. And it WAS a gorgeous 70 degree March day. So off they went.

The report I got upon my return was this: Maple syrup is not very interesting. The naturalist doing the presentation was not dynamic. And the chickens were really funny.

Oh well, at least there were funny chickens. And cupcakes.
