Letters to Santa

I usually wait until after Thanksgiving to have the kiddos write their letters to Santa, BUT Thanksgiving was so late this year that we wrote them the weekend before Turkey Day. We had been talking about what to request from Santa for a while beforehand, so we were able to write the letters pretty easily and quickly. The kids needed some prompting for including the niceties of letter writing...like anything other than a list of what they wanted! With just a little help though, I think the letters turned out well!

We usually go to Macy's to mail our letters. They have a special mailbox for Santa and they give $1 for each letter in the box to charity, Make A Wish, I think!

Dear Santa

After we got home from our Thanksgiving travels, we quickly had the kids sit down and formally write their letters to Santa.  It was about time to get this stuff in writing!

Gillian went first.

This is what she dictated to me.

And the picture she drew for Santa.

I'm not sure Santa will share his birth date with us though.

While Gillian was very direct and industrious with her letter, Colin seemed to be angst ridden over his.  He kept telling us he wasn't ready.  And he kept pouring over and over the toy catalogs.  We think he was nervous that he wouldn't put the exact RIGHT thing on his list and he would be disappointed on Christmas morning.  Finally, he felt ready though and we got down to business.

The next morning we headed to the mall to mail our letters in the Macy's Santa mailbox.

So off the letters went to the Big Guy in the North Pole!  Let's hope he didn't see the epic, earth-shattering  fit that Gillian threw 20 minutes later in Sears.  Oy.

Our Letters to Santa!

Right after we got home from our Thanksgiving adventures, we sat down to write our letters to Santa. We wanted him to have time to make sure that he had SOMETHING that was actually on the list!

Gillian and I sat down together and she told me what to write for her. It took her a while to narrow down some specifics for her wishlist. She had been telling us three or four or five different things for weeks!

Here's what she settled on:

(In case you can't read it: Dear Santa, My name is Gillian. I have been very good this year. Please can you bring me Tinkerbell, Prince Charming, and Baby Cinderella. That's all I need. Love, Gillian. The "That's all I need" was all her idea!)

And she included this picture of Cinderella that she had colored:

Colin had Daddy help him with his letter.

He also drew this awesome picture of Santa on his letter! It was the first "person" picture that he has ever drawn! Pretty cool! Daddy thinks it looks like Jack Skeleton from Nightmare before Christmas!

(His says: Dear Santa, My name is Colin. I have been very good this year. Please could you bring me: A Shed, A Roundhouse, Trains, Thomas, and Annie and Clarabelle. Regards, Colin)

The next morning we took our letters to the mall and mailed them in Santa's special mailbox!
