Zoo Adventures....Kinda.

Once upon a Friday we went to the zoo. It was a hot day. Too hot for September, but we went anyway due to schedules. The tigers weren't out. The rhino was put away for impending childbirth. And lions were nowhere to be found. We did see the elephants SWIM, which was way cool. The aquarium was really fun, thanks in part to our new obsession with sea creatures. We especially enjoyed the blowfish, the penguins, and the octopus. Oh, and the air conditioning. The baby sea otter made Mommy laugh. Finally, Colin reached his limit of hot and tired. And home we came. Later the next week Daddy accidentally deleted all the zoo pictures. Bummer, but it happens. Guess we'll have to go back.

First Day of School 2012

Colin and Gillian started their year of 3 year old preschool on September 11. They will go two mornings a week this year and they are in separate classes, as requested! They only had a hour session on Tuesday, but Thursday was the start of their full (half) days. It was quite chilly Tuesday morning, but I made them head out for pictures anyway.

And I love this one of the two of them together. Gillian was freaking out because SHE NEEDED A COAT. And Colin was all "Calm down, sissy."

Tuesday went very well. The report I got was they played (mostly with play doh and cars) and had goldfish crackers for snack. They were raring to go for a full day on Thursday, although Colin has a couple of classmates who are having trouble being away from their parents and are crying some. Colin told me they were making him nervous. We talked about how he might be able to help them feel better, and he told me Thursday was better, but still come crying. He had a good day anyway!

Bring on the school year!

1...2...3....JUMP!

A beautiful Sunday morning led us to a hike through the woods in the park, putting "electricity" to the "steamworks", and nice time on the playground. Man, do I love those cool, sunny fall mornings!

The big rock was the steamworks. The branches were the "electricity." It all equaled a very nice, peaceful playtime!

Playdate!

We met up with our friends Miss Beth, Natalie, and Jackson a week or so ago for a great morning of sunshine and play. We don't get to see these guys often, but the kids play very well together when we do! The girls especially seemed to have a lot of fun together this time!

Gillian has been super focused on doing the monkey bars by herself this summer. Only one or two of the playgrounds we visit even HAVE monkey bars. But she practices when she can! Just the week before this playdate she had completed the BIG monkey bars all by herself! Here she is "teaching" Natalie how to do it.

We love seeing these guys! Unfortunately Natalie is in preschool the opposite days as C&G this year. But, we'll find the time to get together!

Suprise in the Mail!

A few weeks ago Colin and Gillian got a surprise package in the mail! They LOVE getting mail, even a postcard. So a rather good sized box with their names on it was just about the bee's knees in their minds! So, who had this fantastic surprise come from? Our very own JESSIE BEAN! YAY! Jess had been to Huntsville, Alabama for work and stopped by NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center for some Colin and Gillian goodies! She knew exactly how excited these two get over rockets and space "stuff"!

My pictures aren't the best. I was trying to control the mess of opening so much stuff while still documenting their excitement!

Colin "reading" the enclosed note from Jess.

A BIG backpack of NASA pictures, coloring books, book marks, and all sorts of other stuff!

And OH BOY! A shuttle for each of them!

And some shuttle and NASA tattoos. Those were HIGHLY enjoyed.

Happy, happy boy.

The next day we sat down and "wrote" thank you notes to Jess. I wish I would have copied them before I mailed them. I just dictated what the kids said and gave them very few prompts. They had very sweet words for Jessie Bean and were very grateful for their goodies! We have been playing with this stuff for WEEKS!!

Labor Day Fun

Yes, we are still here. Yes, I am still blogging. Post-vacation August was pretty boring, but in a good way! We had beautiful weather and a few fun things to do, but no big adventures. I did get a few pictures, but they need to chased down off the other camera! Hope to catch up with those soon!

So, last weekend we headed north to visit family and friends. We hadn't been up since July 4, so it was certainly time! We drove up Saturday morning, settled in, and got the kids used to the idea of sharing Uncle D's room at Grammy's house! We usually put one kid in Uncle D's room and one in our room, but since Uncle D and Aunt Cedes weren't up that weekend, we decided to be adventurous! We set up one air mattress and set Gillian up in the queen bed! We switched them the next day, just to be fair! Other than no nap on Saturday, they did very, very well. And I slept SO MUCH BETTER than I do when we share a room! HOORAY!

Our first adventure was a swim and fish fry at Dickiedoo's on Saturday evening. Noonie was off visiting family and we missed her. Dickiedoo had invited Grammy and Papa to come along too, since Papa had helped catch the fish, after all!

Oh, and Real Leah too!

I think this is when her nose was starting to run. It didn't stop. And it's Thursday and it's still running just a bit!

The fish was DELICIOUS. The kids preferred Uncle Stevies french fries though!

Sunday was spent playing at Grammy's and having a picnic with Dickiedoo, Mrs. Kathy, Tim, and JOE! Oh JOE!

The kids were out like lights that afternoon and ready to go visit GraGra and Papa after nap. Uncle Willis had whipped up a great lasagna for us. And Great-Grandma and Great-Papa came too. We had a nice visit and an excellent dinner. But no pictures. Colin was NAGGING us to go back to Grammy's though because we had told him we'd have a campfire!

The kids FIRST campfire! They helped Daddy build it. Daddy put those Eagle Scout skills to work!

SO EXCITED!

Good work, Daddy! It was an excellent fire!

We tried some s'mores. They were not a hit. Goofy kids. I enjoyed mine! They DID enjoy running around in the dark, staying up late, and seeing JOE again! Finally around 9:00 Grammy and I did get them into bed! Then I got to spend more fire time visiting with our friends Tim and Betsy! YAY!

Monday morning we were up and out the door and headed home! A quick holiday weekend, but a fun one!
